Any showstopper issues with 955? Safe to buy? Big disappointments after the first months?

Any big issues with 955 that should prevent me from buying it? I saw some issues with BT and lines on screen, but this seems to be fixed. I' m not happy with GPS of F6 and display of F7 Sapphire is not working for me with the glare and low contrast.

What are be the big pro's of a Fenix 7 compared to a 955 other than Titan case, Sapphire (not for me anyway)? Will the 955 get update for the same time or is this much shorter for the Forerunner series?

  • The 955 non solar can be found at 75% the price of base 7s. Had that been the case when I bought it, it would have been an easy choice. Actually it is a steal.

  • How it works with smart trainer? (e.g. controlling Wahoo Kickr Core in workout with ERG). Any bugs? I'm looking for one device for running, cycling, smart trainer. On paper, everything would be fine with FR955, but when i read this forum i am amazed at the amount of bugs...

  • I've never used a smart trainer with it.

Most of the problems currently reported are in the functions that are not used by the majority of people, but are absolutely essential to a few.

For example, I haven't ever been swimming with the watch, but for those who do swim regularly, those functions are important, and not counting pool lengths correctly would be a major problem for them.

For running and walking (which is what I do mainly) the watch performs correctly with the currently released software.

I have had problems with HRV readings since October, but it looks like that was not the watch's fault. My HRV values have come back into my normal range over the last week without any software changes.

  • Actually it is a steal.

No. It cost a lot of money and it should work properly. Garmin should pay way more attention to software development.

  • I am not arguing against better software, I am also dissapointed. I am using my Epix over winter and hoping garmin makes progress on 955 in the meantime. But I could much much better justify purchase of 955 at current prices, where I live, compared to what I actually paid.

  • That”s more because the original price was ridiculous hign. Not because a 955 is now cheap.

(sure, I can pay it and not eati anything less due it. But it’s still expensive)

  • We are talking about vs base Fenix 7s, not Epix (which I btw. bought for a very good price, but in a hurry forgot to use a coupon for an even better price) and without knowing what prices are for 955 where I live, you cannot judge whether that is cheap or not.

It is selling for 75% of the base Fenix 7s which is already selling at 75% of garmin official price. More direct It is also 75% of garmins official price. It is hard to find a watch with similar features from another manufacture at that pricepoint. But it is also the more natural pricepoint in garmins lineup, because at the time of my purchase price of the base Fenix 7s was actually a tiny bit cheaper and if I had gone for that, I might not have felt the urge to try Epix. 945 LTE is the odd one, I would really have considered going for that if it was cheaper, but it is just so expensive and still is, that it is very hard to justify.

  • Fair enough. We could both be right.

  • my bad experience with COROS is on its hardware , i.e. bluetooth sync problem,  it is annoying buzzling connect/disconnect especially at night, I have to turn off bluetooth on phone.  Worse was I could not sync my activity from Apex Pro and COROS support team asked me to put  Apex Pro in fridge for a minute or two.  And it's work and sync.  Nevertheless, I don't experience on the software issue.  It was two years ago.

  • Look like F7 series has changed the case from previous F5/F6 stainless steel/titanium to polymer ,  that could be one of the main reasons of GPS inaccuracy in F5/F6
