Problems with pool count with the new Forerunner 955

Hi,

After using the 935 for many years I have purchased the new 955.

I can't put my finger on the issue yet but it sometimes freezes during the swim. The timer counter keeps going but the pool count just does not increase.

I had one day - after finishing "rest" the timer was increasing but the distance was remaining on '--' although I had swum more than 300 meters.

On another day it stopped the count at 125 meters and "picked up" on the missing pools around 325 meters where it suddenly updated.

This is obviously a software bug.

Are the guys at Gramin aware of that?

Thanks

  • Hello all,

We do not currently have any new information on this report just yet but hope to have something to address this in a future software update.  At this time, we do not have a timeline for the release of this future software update but hope to be releasing something soon.

  • I have a similar issue. After an hour of lap swimming my watch stops counting the interval distance. I was 2600 meters into a workout and when I started the following 50 meter interval it measured 0 when I got back to the wall. I stopped and saved the workout and started a new one but the problem persisted. The only way to fix is is to reboot the watch.

    Anyone else having this issue?

  • Yes. This is the exact bug that this thread is about

  • Thanks for the update. However, it is quite disappointing that no solution have been found so far.

I hope you can understand the disappointment from a new state-of-the-art watch to be failing in such a basic function.
Are you sure the issue is a software bug and not a hardware issue?

  • Thx for the confirmation.

  • Another update being released and nothing about this bug. I don't think Garmin realizes how many people buy this watch just to train swimming, and how many triathletes train at the pool and need to know their performance.

I think Garmin needs a little more pressure to start prioritizing this issue. I'm reviewing the watch with one star in every review webpage, and telling other people what's going on here.

It's just not fair that people keep buying this watch to swim and in two days we find them here with the same problem.

  • Adding a data point to the thread.

    • Received the watch August 30, 2022 with Software 11.12 - Pool lap counting worked
    • Updated to Software: 12.23 on Sept 1, 2022 and first swim on Sept 9th worked correctly
    • First issue started on Sept 27th with Software: 12.23 but majority of the swim was captured correctly
    • The next 5 workouts there were no issues - Sept 30th to October 5th
    • October 10th issue started up again where 2600 meters were captured correctly.  The last 300 was not.
    • October 13th none of the distance data was captured
  • Have you tried 12.27 ?

I swim four times a week , but I'm afraid only around 1000m so it seems the issue happens at a higher volume than I do. Mine seems to record ok at this stage.

  • Adding data point:
Friends 955.  Purchased June-22  FW 12.23.  Non Solar.  2000-3000 yrds 3x a week. Does not flip turn.  No issues.
