  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 9.00 to 9.56:

  • Added enhanced strength functionality, which includes an improved workout preview with a map of muscles that will be used, improved UI in free mode and workouts, and improvements to the rep and weight editing experience.
  • Improvements made to on-device sleep detection and sleep staging.
  • Improvements made to Run/Idle detection algorithm, particularly when detecting when the user has stopped.
  • Added the Resting Heartrate True-Up feature. RHR data now gets trued-up so that all devices tied to the same account will have the same RHR value.
  • Added new alert to display after this SW update to inform user that wifi networks configured to WEP security are no longer supported.
  • Updates for Shimano Di2 support
  • Other minor improvements and bug fixes.

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Forerunner 945 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Forerunner945_956Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive. From the RemoteSW folder, copy the GUP3114.GCD file to the device's \Garmin\RemoteSW folder.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. Connect your Forerunner 945 to your computer using the USB cable.
  5. From the RemoteSW folder within Forerunner945_956Beta, copy the B2196080A.gcd file to the device's \Garmin\RemoteSW folder.
  6. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  7. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-820.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE-820.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD. Copy the GUP3114.GCD file from RemoteSW\Downgrades, place it in the device's \Garmin\RemoteSW folder. Disconnect the device to install. After the update has installed, copy the B2196080A.gcd file to the device's \Garmin\RemoteSW folder and let that update install. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • You can also use autopause. Its working quite well :)

  • The sleep detection looks to be a bit better as now the sleep time is within 15 mins or so of the Emfit sleep analyser that's in my bed. Before this is could be hours in the difference & of course the funny moments after I got up, looked at the watch & it said I was still sleeping!

  • 5.40 and 6.00 are one and the same - just for different hardware revisions I understand.

  • Two issues with the new Strength activity setup:

    1. When doing a structured workout (one with steps downloaded from GC), the screen defaults back to a detailed list of all exercises after each step (or lap button press). You then need to scroll past all of the workout steps to view the other data screens during a rest. If the workout has 20 steps, you’ll need to press the down button 20 times to view the rest counter or HR info. Previously, it defaulted to a screen with the rest timer and next step listed.

    2. Is it just me, or is it impossible to delete a custom workout from the watch now? I believe there was an option to delete a workout after selecting it, but with beta 9.56 I can’t find it. I’m trying to update a workout by deleting and adding it back in, but can’t seem to do so.

  • Yeah, cool, can this go into production now?  The sleep tracking has been a total joke since Garmin put it on-device.  I went to bed at 9p last night, woke up at 5:30a, and it said I went to sleep at 1 am, woke up at 5:30 (good job on that I guess?   The gag is it says I slept 3 hours, 41 minutes with 44 minutes of awake time.  No REM, no deep sleep.  Since the switch, it rarely tracks REM, instead tracking actual REM time as "awake".  Just useless.

  • Is instant pace better or the same shi*t like before?

  • Resting HR has been showing the same 40bpm on the graph for the last 7 days (since installing)?

Also says 7-day average is 42...

Normally I'd get a couple of beats of daily variance and I'd be expecting an average of 38-39bpm.

  • Just checked that and identical straight line graph for me, it used to vary day by day.

  • 7 days of 40, yesterday was 42 and today is showing 40 (default?) so far, although the "last 4 hours" graph shows 37 as the lowest and it was 37-39 for a couple of minutes earlier when I was having a look.

  • I wonder if it's using 40bpm as a hard bottom?

My HR has been lower in the last week, but shows as 40bpm.

The one day it was higher, it shows correctly...
