Power drop outs from Kickr18 to Garmin 945

I have my kickr 18 setup to Apple TV to use Zwift which is saving my work out perfectly. I also use my Garmin 945 at the same time which is also connected to my kickr 18 to record my workout. I have noticed on my Garmin 945 that the speed and power numbers drop off continuously for a second. They come back but then keep dropping off. I am not sure why this has started happening as it has never done it before. Are you able to help with solving this issue? I have attached the two files from my workout yesterday. The .fit file shows the power drops recorded to my Garmin 945 and the .gpx shows no drops recorded to the Apple TV using Zwift. Any thoughts why there are power drops to the Garmin 945 would be great.

  • Same issue here connecting to a Cycleops H2. Tried the watch in various positions but doesn't make much difference.

  • In the exact same room (nothing moving) there is no interface between the Kickr Core and an iMac with an ANT+ stick (close to 3m away).. but there is interference between my wrist and the Kickr Core which is less than 1m away from each other? Very unlikely!

  • Still suffering from drop outs via ANT+ on my 945. This is more so the case with 945. I have a 1030 head unit as well and tested with a lot less drop outs (see pics below). I have tried repositioning the 945 closer to trainer with no change. Earlier recommendation with regard to changing channels on house modem I havent tried, more for fear of breaking something. I have also tried connecting the 945 via Bluetooth. It initially connects to bluetooth fine but then wont stay connected. My understanding is this is the prefered connection method?? Any thoughts/suggestion would be greatly appreciated?!

ANT+ doesn't pass through objects very well. It is possible that the signal is being blocked by the trainer itself, or by your body, while the ANT+ has clear line-of-sight. It may be worth experimenting with the watch on your other wrist.

But the general suggestion is if you are getting dropouts on ANT+, is to delete the pairing, and re-connect using Bluetooth instead.

  • Garmin 945 does not support pairing a "Trainer" via Bluetooth - They only added ANT+ FE-C control into the device, so pairing it via bluetooth is not an option

  •  ahh, I didnt know that part. Here I was reading I should try bluetooth instead and it doesn't even work. As you say I can control the trainer (grade, resistance, etc.) so thanks for letting me know. Much appreciated.
