  • Well I don't think it's there with 935 GPS+Galileo, neither did Ray when 945 review has been made "I still think right now the most accurate Garmin device for me (over the past two months) is the Forerunner 935 in GPS+GALILEO mode". I haven't seen noticeable improvements on 945 accuracy since launch and it still have problems handling swimruns without losing GPS tracks.

But these are YMMV on many reasons, where you live, which kind of sports do you do etc.

And standing outside waiting 10minutes really isn't an option. Especially in winters, you get cold or you will need to wear too much clothes that you will get too hot during the activity.

So let's just leave it there and let's hope that 955 is better.

  • Are you kidding?

This is an really expensive device, not a 25€ china watch.

So you think its ok to wait 8 minutes in the cold? I don't speak about accuracy, this is another thing but it is and on the range 5 to 10 meter in surrounded area and in open spaces o think around 5 meter. It is the gps fix which is absolut bad. How long does you're watch need for gps fix? For me it is more than 1 step back in development when a new device needs longer than the version before, and I also can not agree with better battery life, I can't see a big differ3nce to 935.

  • Look who said and what.

And standing outside waiting 10minutes really isn't an option.
  • I saw youre post and its exactly my opinion.  But some others seems to find this issues normal.

What i saw is, that it is no difference between gps and glonass or gps and galileo, also no difference in what activity you start. Also no difference in weather conditions and i always start my training at the same place. Funny is also that the datafield (dozen run or dozen walk) shows 4 satellites but the progress bar shows red. I think it is a problem with the cpe file and how it is handled, but im not a programmer. It would be a help if there is some software that really sohws what is going on during the process of gps fix.

  • Yep, but you replied to me saying "Are you kidding?". So I thought you have misread something. That was more likely to meant to .

  • Sorry :-)

I totally agree with you're post.

I just hope that garmin can fix this gps thing. As i sayed, i have had some other problems with devices from garmin but after some updates they worked as expected. To sad that it  looks like they launch products in beta state.

  • No, you simply get into the habit of starting the activity 10 min before you get to the start line. I like most others wear the watch 24/7, so having a battery sucking GPS chip that will kill the battery in a day is a no no.

  • April 2019 review? What software version was the 945 when he made that statement. If you look at his recent reviews where he includes the 945 for comparisons, you will see that his opinion has since changed. Of everyone using the Sony chip (who isnt?), he thinks that Garmin has the best implementation.

  • But you know that gps is not on just wearing the watch?

Have you ever tried you're suggestion? Im afraid no, normaly you are inside a building before starting the training, so no gps available. If you put the watch on a window bench and wait for fix you have to do it again when on the street, because you loos gps fix and it need again  some minutes. Have seen this also after stopping a exercise and starting it again (same place not moved).

  • I said there are other factors also to think about. Like your location which affects how much of satellites there are visible. What happens in Amsterdam isn't fact for the whole planet, it's of course a good starting point for the data. Like he hasn't noticed that the Garmin's elevation correction database is pretty crappy as there's not much elevation to be wrong in there, which is also heavily affected where you live.

We know that bridges and tall building makes Sony go more wonky than the MediaTek, or is this also something you deny? I could say only based on that the accuracy is worse. This also makes me wonder how much eg. tree cover will affect MediaTek vs. Sony.

Looking recent reviews, if you compare all the Sony chipsets with each other, they are probably all as bad or as good as they are. Looked at couple of newer watch reviews quickly and didn't notice 935 in the GPS comparison in Lily, Rival, Versa 3 or V2 reviews..

Also this is pointless. I already said, "So let's just leave it there and let's hope that 955 is better.". I don't think you are going to change my mind, neither I think I can change your mind as these things really are also YMMV based on a lot of things.
