First run with firmware 3.90 and...

Did yesterday my 1st run after upgrading to fw 3.90.

I started the GPS after start running on the track and the GPS was already locked (showing the green link).

All the training was at the track, usually it shows an elevation variation of 1 or 2 meters...

Well, I will leave the images to show how it went... but... seriously Garmin? Not looking good at all!

  • The elevation issue is likely due to the GPS issue.  Assuming you have the default settings, it will auto-calibrate when you start an activity.  For this, it uses what it thinks your current location is and looks that up in the DEM map.  You also likely have continuous calibration enabled, so if it sees your elevation doesn't match what the DEM map says it should for your current location, it will slowly adjust it until it does match.  That's why you see the gradual curve in the graph.

  • Thanks for the tip on CPE.  I see that CPE it is current, but I saw past posts that a Wifi sync can help .   The GPS fix is still pretty slow, 15 mins but better than the 45m the last time.

  •  Note there's a specific fix in v4.0 just released for problems with the ephemeris data over BLE (ie when connected to phones).

Worthwhile connecting to a PC and deleting the CPE file even if current to force a refresh.

  • Never, ever, turn on automatic updates in any piece of hardware that use software. Wait for comments from brave users ;-)  I am still on 3.30 waiting for more information about 3.90 and 4.00.
