Happy?

I know that the majority of people that have purchased the 945 are perfectly happy (I'd assume anyways), but I'm just wondering of the people on these forums how many are happy.  I know I'm not especially.  I debated between the F5+, which I know was basically the 935 in a metal body, and the 945.  I chose the 945 based on the new Firstbeat metrics thinking that I would be wowed.  I like the new software (menus/animations) and the race predictor, but everything else is just sort of ehhh.  I came from a 935 to the 945 so I had about 95% of the functionality anyways.

Now I'm considering returning the 945 and taking advantage of the sales on the F5+.  At least then I'd get a more rugged watch with a sapphire screen and consistent build versus the 945 that either has to have a screen protector or be 'babied' and has buttons that feel completely different from one minute to the next.

  • Not really. 935 was great from the start, this not so. I can't recommend this, at least for now. I can recommend getting 935. Hopefully things will change, but we'll see.

    945:
    + Maps
    + New firstbeat metrics
+ More allowed courses in the watch
    - GPS
    - Mushy buttons (Still waiting for Garmin to tell, that yes, we have fixed that problem with new watches, so would be encouraged to complain about them and getting normal buttons like mine 935 has).
    - Bugs (Couple of examples: openwater swim gps drops, sensor connection issues)

Garmin Pay would maybe be plus, but as my bank doesn't support and I haven't found bank that I could use that supports it's pointless. Revolut seems to be one solution, but their Garmin Pay support is weird, works for some countries for some, but not for me.

For music, only good thing about it is more storage, I don't listen music when doing sports...

  • 935 was great from the start,

Go back to the first posts for the 935 and you'll see posts about a number of issues, some similar, after release. FYI open water swimming was particularly bad for the 935 for a wee while after it first came out, and again about a year or so ago when the GPS was radically changed. Also discussions about button feel too.

My 02c worth? Can't see any problems with GPS tracks in any of the three configurations even in dense bush. OWS? Yes there does seem to be some issue with the signal being lost while swimming although now some are saying it's fixed. Too cold for me tor swim outdoors here in NZ for me to check. Button feel is I think very subjective. Mine are not as crisp as my Marq Athlete but then I would not expect them to be. They function when I press them. Just like the buttons on my 935 they change feel after a bit of use and again after a few days of not being used. Is that a problem? Is that a defect? No to both. Its just a mechanism that changes feel, like many others do, with use.

Garmin Pay does not feature on my radar at all. But then I don't get excited about Apple Pay on my Apple Watch either.

  • That's based on my experience and what it was for me.

I didn't have problems with 935 when I bought it. And I was lucky to get a version with all the buttons clicking.

My GPS accuracy is noticeably worse than 935, the new GPS beta firmware did improve things but side by side comparison still favours 935.

And I have the beta GPS firmware and I've still seen OWS dropouts. Was doing swim-run and the first three swim parts worked and then it decided that was it next swim parts didn't.

And I have one button that you can press and it down in, but does not cause click, I think they call it "double action" which it hasn't and I'm not happy with it. But for now it's kind of pointless to try to change the watch as Garmin haven't said anything else that we are inspecting it. I'm waiting they will say that ok, now the new watches have that fixed and then I really would like a watch where the buttons work like they should. It's not about the feeling, if the feeling would be same in every button, then that would be the case and so be it. But if the one button if significantly different how it does work, one can't say that it's just how they should be.

You may feel differently, but I think this thread was about "Happy?" which is subjective thing. Am I happy? Not are you happy or what do you think is the general situation with the watches.

  • no no no Fenix isn't the right choice...if U've problem like some people usin' 945 came back to 935

  • I am not happy.  I upgraded to the 945 for the music feature and after many attempts (in addition to needing to purchase a subscription to Spotify) the music feature does not work .  I had my 935 for many years and regret spending $600 on the 945.

I upgraded from the 935 to the 945 for maps. Music wasn't a concern for me. That being said, I tried Spotify and downloading my own music and everything works great. I use the music feature on runs, cycling and when doing yard work. Now that I use the music feature, I'd be pretty disappointed if I lose it.

  • Very happy with the 945.  For me it's way more comfortable than the F5+ on long runs probably mostly due to the weight.  Coming from a 935, I was unimpressed with the F5+ for battery and comfort.  The 945 seems to meld the best of both.  In general, I'm getting better battery life with the 945 than either the 935 or F5+.  I find the tracks to be better than the F5+ as well, which would often leave a star pattern in the track when I'd stop for a break.

I have never had any issue with the screen, or buttons, on the 935 and I'd wear it for everything.  Nor did I have issues with the F5+.  I expect the 945 to be about the same.  So I don't buy into the Forerunners being less durable.  The plastic bodies are incredibly tough.
