Step Counter and Distance

My son had a simple step counter that displayed the steps so far plus the km so far.

Now he got my 935 and is wondering how to get the same information? We are not talking activity but simply the distance walked today so far.

It seems it is not handily available, at least I didn‘t find it on the watch. Also in the connect store I wasn‘t successful.

Of course he is going like ‚how come this expensive watch can‘t do what my cheap counter can?‘

Any ideas? Thanks.

It’s in the garmin connect app on your phone.

There is a my day widget, which reports stepcounts per day.

Why are you interested in steps and distance when you by an expensive sportwatch? It’s far from accurate and has no actual meaning when you workout regularly (which you do I presume)

The simple explanation is: people who buy an expensive sportwatch are not interested in a stepcounter.

I don't want to argue, actually I agree it is not meaningful.

That said the statement is not correct as the stepcounter is included and almost every watch face displays it.

The question is rather why the distance is not presented as well as on the cheap device. And an answer like 'this can't do it because it is too expensive and too powerful' is obviously not very satisfactory ;-)

I'm sure this were trivial to implement but also obviously there is no strong demand, otherwise it would be there.already. This watch can do almost everything short of brewing coffee, so I was a little surprised when he asked that it isn't there.

Anyway, he will have to look into the app.

Thank you, but the issue is not the # steps (which is available) but the corresponding distance

Ah sorry, so you're looking for a widget that shows you the total distance based on daily step count? Seems like it'd be possible to compute if you based it on the average stride length. But at the same time that might be grossly inaccurate, stride length running is longer than walking. Running 10 miles would result in quite a few less steps than walking. But as you said in the app/online the daily summary page has a "distance" number with the steps. That may possibly use a hybrid of GPS data if it's present and then supplementing it with average stride length for steps not taken during GPS activities. From a programming perspective that would be possible and they've got all that data.

But it doesn't look like either supports the 935. Since there is ones out there hopefully you'll be able to find one that supports the 935.
