Training Status "No Status"?

"No Status" since 29th April?
Recording load OK, recovery OK, training Effect OK.
I last used a power meter (broken) on 15/4.
Been using a mix of wrist HR and HRM Run since then (about 15hr of cycling).
  • Training Status looks at changes in VO2Max and changes in Load. VO2Max requires comparing "input" with "output". Input is measured as % of maxHR. Output for running can be estimated with GPS pace, but output for cycling requires a power meter. With no effective power meter since 15/4, there is no reliable VO2Max figure. With no additional data, TS reports "No Status" after 2 weeks. The TS algorithm is performing exactly as designed.
  • Oh well. Was useful while it lasted :(
Now I'm constantly getting told to just "run outdoors with heart rate twice to see your status".

Now to find another PowerTap PowerCal...
  • We have seen other users report this issue and have escalated this to our engineering team. We will let you know the status of a resolution when more information becomes available.

That's a pity that Training effect/VO2Max works only with running. I understand some troubles with cycling w/o powermeter, but it cound work for cross country skiing. A lot of people do cross country skiing during winter, but they don't run much. Can you please ask your engeneer to update the function about cross country skiing as well? Thank you.

  • Hi Blake, I don't run or cycle because I don't like those exercises, however I  do hard hiking, lots of vertical and lots of interval training. Had my Fenix 5x Plus for a month now, train every day and would like the training status for cardio and hiking. Thanks Dave

  • same issue for me. Training status vanished suddenly about a month ago, and I keep being told that I need to run twice with HR to have it back

I saw from earlier in this issue that “Running” appears to be only activity tracked for which Training Status works. And there are requests for Dev to add activities. Here’s another: Please add Trail Run! I tried to get Training Status back with at least another kind of Run (I.e. Trail Run) but no luck.

Please add Trail Run to activity feeding Training Status.

  • Trail Running is explicitly excluded from VO2Max, because variability in the trail surface means that speed and elevation gain are no longer accurate measures of how hard you are working, and therefore a VO2Max estimate from Trail Running would not be reliable. Note that you do get Training Load and Training Effect from Trail Running.

Thank you for explaining this mcalista. I've been wondering why despite running outdoors with HR, I wasn't getting the training status.

Is there any update to this? I've had the Garmin Forerunner 935 for ~10 months. The Training Status function worked in the beginning but now no matter how much I run outside, it reads "No Status" and suggests I need to run outside twice to get a read. Really frustrating.
