Foot POD/HRM Run drop outs in gym

Hi. Recently in the gym I have been experiencing drop outs with my foot POD and HRM-run while on the treadmill. Strange thing is it only drops out when I am on the actual treadmill. I can walk around the gym with no issues. I have never experience this previously with the same 935 and foot POD/HRM-run. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers (I have attached a pic of the drop outs) ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1430924.png
  • The obvious suspect would be electrical interference from the treadmill.

I'm not sure I have any suggestions, apart from perhaps trying a different treadmill?
  • Ye, guessing it is interference but I have never experienced this before as I have been going to the same gym for years, same treadmills, same POD, etc etc. Just really interested in what it could be or if there is something I have done in settings which caused it.

Its pretty trivial but I dont like to run on treadmill with watch on, gets really sweaty around the buttons, so I put it down on the treadmill. But with this interference I have to rely the 935s pace reading.

Went to gym again this AM and same thing. I have attached image of the file from today and .fit file (zipped).ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1431198.png
  • I will ask about any wifi changes next time. In terms of the wifi signal, what should I look for that may point towards radio frequency (RF) blocking the foot pod? If the wifi is also set to 2.4 GHz? I thought it would be possible to have other frequencies on the same setting, with no issues as there are many other people with devices working out. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the wifi as the drops only occur as soon as I step on the treadmill.

I use the HRM-tri. Alright I will fully charge for next run.

I am more interested in knowing my HR value during the exercise - but thanks for the point on downloading afterwards, will try.

Not sure what are normal ANT+ signal strength values should be, but I would guess more than 33% is normal.

Will update to every second now. I have attached my spinning session on a watt bike I did before the run. Bike is approximately 20m from the treadmill. I placed the watch next to me on the spin bike so HR readings just from HRM-tri with no issues (can see only two 'drops').
  • Thank you. That all is very useful to know. I have never tried turning off OHR so will give that a go for sure. At least it may then potentially resolve the interference with HRM-tri.

Ye, the spinning (watt) bike is positioned away from the treadmills on the gym floor. When my foot pod is on my running shoes (beside the bike), it is connected to 935 with no issues, hence the 80% at start. The 3 drops from HRM-tri are not noticeable while spinning. Once I leave the bike and head to treadmill, the interference starts.

Perhaps the wifi router has been moved or something else of that nature.

    Will update asap.
  • I have a similar issue in one gym I use on occasions. Where the treadmills are, my watch drops the connection between the HRM Run and footpod on a regular basis. If I move to another part of the gym it doesnt happen. It's annoying, as it effects my stats. My guess would be interferrance from a wifi network too.
  • James, do you know if it is a 'fancy' treadmill? Here is the treadmill in my gym, they have TVs, apps, etc. which I assume need some kind of signal. https://www.technogym.com/int/excite-treadmill-run-1000-med.html

Good to know that isn't only me.
  • Actually in the gym where I have the problem its an older treadmill without the "fancy" extras. My usual gym has all the bells and whistles on the treadmill and it works ok.

Pretty sure its a wifi signal in that area of the building has the drop out happens when I walk through the area without the treadmill being on.
  • There will be improvements in the upcoming software update that will address ANT+ connectivity specifically. We apologize for the inconvenience in the meantime. This update should be available very soon.
  • Garmin-Blake thank you for the update - great news! Apologies as I haven't been back to gym this week. Will certainly keep an eye out for that update.

Will keep this thread updated and post .fit file following update
