Bug: GCM won't update the EPO.BIN Extended Prediction Orbit data

My setup so far:

Forerunner 935 SW 10.10
GPS 2.20
GCM Android 4.10

For a while now, GCM will not update the EPO.BIN file anymore, the update mechanism via the mobile (Android) app is broken. The only possibility to keep EPO.BIN up to date seems to be a connection with Garmin Express, which is EXTREMELY (!!!) unhandy on vacation abroad or any situation, where you do not want to carry your PC/Laptop/Mac with you for some time.

Garmin, please fix that asap!!!
  • have you tried the new beta and GPS 2.3? Mine hasn't been connected to a PC for over 10 days and EPO shows as current.
  • There is no GPS 2.3. There is a GPS 2.23 and 2.24, both beta and not officially released. I am on the official release channel, hence I prefer to stick to, what Garmin officially considers stable.

By the way, is your GCM Android or Apple?
  • Garmin considers it as stable, as the firmware is stable. That does not mean that its free of bugs.

    - stay at stable FW (9.70 or 10.10) and wait for the next stable release which will get at least GPS 2.24 then.
    - stay at stable FW (9.70 or 10.10) and just update GPS to 2.24
    - install beta FW (10.55) which includes GPS 2.24

i used stable FW and also betas and never had issues with expired EPO files. (i just use GCM on android)
  • Typo on the GPS version front. GCM is Android. You'll just have to wait then if you don't want to try the Beta.
  • I had an issue a while ago with the EPO not being updated, although I'm on iPhone not Android. It wouldn't update via Bluetooth although always had in the past.

I set my phone up as a hotspot and used the Wifi to perform a sync. This worked and the EPO was updated.

Since then I have only used Bluetooth and havent had the same issue.

Might be worth a try for you.
  • Tested WiFi update and that works, GE update also works, GCM update... does not work for whatever reasons. Will reinstall the app from scratch to see if that helps. But probably it is the same issue as there was previously with GE which has been fixed with a new version of the application.

Edit: re-installation of the app including new pairing of the 935 did not fix the EPO update issue, it still remains untouched while anything else properly gets synchronised via bluetooth and GCM. Weird...
