My Forerunner 935 is falling apart

Hello,

During one week Forerunner 935 degraded heavily. See:
Day 1: gps lock took 10 minutes, then gps route was incorrect, pace was abnormal as well as all other readings
Day 2: screen blinked few times and backlight totally gone. Changing settings, opening flashlight, resetting didn't help. Even without backlight image on the screen flickers from time to time, see screenshot #1
Day 3: back button (bottom-right) fails to action - it's either stuck pressed or works once in 10 times.
Day 4. Screen got big white spot during the night. It's always stays there even when watch if off. See screenshot #2.

The funny thing is I don't swim or shower with that, it wasn't hit or fallen, just stayed on my hand during short run and then regular daily activity.

The bad thing I bought it used and have no warranty doc.

I'm looking for a way to make paid repair and will be happy for any tip/advice/guess of what might have happenned. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1384696.jpg ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1384697.jpg
  • Ouch

    Some options:
    • You can submit an online repair request at the Repair Center
    • You can call Garmin support
  • Thank you. I've submitted the request right now.

One guy gave a suggestion that battery is corrupt and expanding, pushes everything else inside. This sounds like an explanation of why it dies gradually...
  • Also, do not wear it anymore if you are, put it somewhere outside your place of residence and in a location where a fire will not be an issue. If the battery is expanding it is a considerable hazard. I'd go as far as to claim on the ticket your concern about the expanding battery and why sending it back could result in a catastrophe, then bring it to your local recycling plant and have it properly disposed of.

Seriously, just go back and look at the horrors the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 wrought. Be safe.
  • after just 2 months of usage

Your opening sentence is a bit misleading. How old was it when you bought it? How much use had it had before you began using it? How had it been treated? I'm guessing you can't answer all of these questions.

It would be nice to receive some sympathy from Garmin, but I wouldn't expect it. I wish you well. The best you can hope is that Garmin will offer a refurbished replacement as they tend not to repair.

Good point! Totally agree with you

Yes, you are right, I can't and 2 months is not objective. I'll edit that now.

This would work for me as currently it's not usable and I'm surprised I can't get even paid repars to such expensive device.

    On a separate note:
Are there other models that can be repaired in case of any issues?
  • I am unaware of any option by GARMIN to repair these devices. THey replace with refurbished or they just go until they drop.
  • Mine did the same thing last summer. I know you bought it used, but open a support case anyway. I've had great experience with Garmin replacing devices that weren't purchased new. They'll have you send that broken watch in, and they'll mail you a replacement.

Really? Do you have any idea why?
My guess is that it got overheated (maybe during that long gps lock) and then battery started expanding. This might explain gradual degradation.

PS: I'm communicating to Garmin support, will keep you posted, thanks everyone!
