GC dropouts with Huawei phone

I've had my 935 connected pretty reliably with several Android phones for awhile now, but I recently switched to the Huawei Mate 10 Pro - updated, on EMUI 8 (their version of Oreo) and I'm having issues. Not with pairing, syncing or connecting - just staying connected. If I open the Garmin Connect app it links in with my phone, and for the next hour or so I get smartphone notifications, music control...the usual stuff. Then it just drops out without any apparent reason, and won't reconnect until I open the GC app again.

It does ping up a message saying that GC needs notification access in the Android settings - which it already has, it's always had it since I installed it. It does this pretty much every time I reconnect.

I've been through various app and power settings within the phone to make sure it's not being throttled back somewhere - it isn't. I've also reinstalled the GC app without any change. The other slightly odd thing is that I've a memory (perhaps imagined?) of being able to pair the 935 and save as a trusted device. I can't actually pair it manually through the Android BT menu's (it never comes up as discoverable, even when in pairing mode) but I don't know if this is related.

If anyone has any advice, I'd welcome it. I'm not laying this at Garmin's lap, I'm just very keen to find a solution.
