Device showing incorrect time (7-10 min LATE (?)) - anyone had this issue

935, FW 6.1 (saw no value in 7.6, especially with the need to re-install everything).
Stock watchface with hands.
Not sure when it appeared (previously used it actively for workouts, now since it is cold outside (10-15 C below zero) I use old 920 not to kill battery) - so I use it mostly as a day-to-day and pool watch - since January.

I discover watch showing incorrect time recently - being late first 2-3 mins (was surprized), then around 7-15 mins (!) and today discovered it late by 7 minutes.

Last GPS activity (and I think GPS time sync) was on Sunday
Monday - morning pool activity (no GPS) and evening stretch (connectIQ app)
Evening - alarm, Morning alarm.
I think (not sure) in the morning time was ok (I have alarm on my watch first and in 5 mins - alarm on my mobile I think (not sure again) the sequence was "normal" (first watch alarm then phone alarm - which means watch could not be 7 mins late).
Then I put the watch off hand and left it for a while.

Then discovered it is 7 (seven!) minutes late.

Anyone had similar issue? Any solution?
  • Very similar to my story, in my case 8min late... happened on 7.60 firmware after (I strongly suspect) device synced with Garmin Connect Mobile (android).
I unpaired the phone and do wifi uploads only - and it did not happened again.

P.S. Check other recent threads with similar issue as there are other people too - you might be able to narrow your conclusion...
  • Now that you mention it,

it happened to me a while ago.
Well, I just went outside and did a GPS-lock and the problem was solved and happened never again. So I don't take it for a big issue because it just happened once.

Of course I can understand your situation, I'd also be annoyed if it would repeat and repeat.

  • Heidstocker, I have it happened 3 times (1-2 mins (which is not that awful, but I never thougt it will happen in 21st century), 15 mins (which almost made me late) and 7 mins today). So for me it just means the device is not reliable as watch (and alarm).

    phnikola,
I also have suspects on sync with GCM (which I do in the morning starting it manually) - especially taking into account that time for activities is wierd (I have morning pool that starts at 7AM - and that 7AM is sometimes 7, sometimes 8 and sometimes 9 (looks like time zone breaks and fixes from time to time - but timezone for me is much easier to explain.

I turned Clock setting for clock in settings from "Auto" to Manual today. Will see if it happens.
I will also post ticket to G Support.
  • IMO, you are safer to leave the time with Auto as Philip suggests in that thread.

Just get rid of crappy GCM...
It would be way better is Garmin would split this app into supporting device groups independently (Forerunners, Fenixes, etc)
  • Just to correct myself - it seems its not GCM....
Had another delay of 8min just this morning ...

@Sergey - I also used alarm this morning (first time after a week) and suspect this might be the cause...
Second suspect - changing some watch faces I installed from CIQ store (via Garmin Express)

I am unsure which of the above - but if you havent been playing with watch faces - we might both narrow it to alarm...

    Will keep checking...

  • phnikola, I though of alarms, but in the thread mentioned above (philipshambrook ) they say that issue is there with no alarms.
No issues yet since I turned auto-time to off (although it happened infrequently previously).
Garmin have not responded to my email to support yet.

We appreciate the discussion on this topic and have reached out to several users in order to try and determine what is causing the time to not display correctly in some instances. We will continue to follow along the discussion and update this thread with any new information .
  • Mine just had the wrong time. Only 3 minutes out. But it went away when I opened the mobile app on iPhone and forced a sync.
    V8.00
one interesting thing which I never noticed before is that although I synced it with the app, it is actually 2 seconds behind the phones clock
  • UPDATE: From what I learned about the time delay - one of the blames is soft reset
During soft reset - no data will be lost and clock will inevitaby go delayed 2-3min.

    Soft-reset can be done by:
    - intent - holding Light (Power) button pressed for 15sec. Screen goes off. Then press Light (Power) button again, it powers on with Garmin triangle logo. After boot sequence is finished and you arrive at home screen, time is delayed for 2-3 min.
    - without intent - eg. if there is malfunctioning connection between watch and laptop (either cable or USB port on the watch), this triggers soft-reset.

In my case it was the second one, and happening when I would connect watch to Garmin Express.
This completely went unnoticed (as reset procedure happens in less than minute), but step by step I was able to narrow it down with help of Garmin support.
When you charge watch - always connect cable to watch, and then to laptop.

I started RMA as device is less then 2 weeks old.
