Triathlon Plans

Ok, so I got the 935 specifically because I want to train for triathlons. I'm a little (ok, a lot) disappointed that swim workouts from the triathlon plans do not show up on the watch. I've even been playing around with TrainingPeaks to see if there swim workouts show on the 935 but apparently Garmin has not allowed them access to the functionality (according to TrainingPeaks). Weird thing is that I can manually create a swim workout that transfers to the 935 just fine.

Wondering if anybody knows why (swim workouts from training plans don't transfer to 935)?
Is this is ever going to change?
I would also like to know if there is any information on how to translate those swim workout notes (instructions) for newer swimmers. For example Kick 50m, Freestyle 200m, Drill 50m. Where do I go to find out what these mean? I googled Triathlon Performance Solutions training plans (the creators of the plans) but didn't really find any good explanations there either.
  • No comment about the training plans for the pool not syncing, it's not functionality I use.

But interesting comment about nomenclature. I guess when you make a training plan like that, you just kind of assume your customer is already going to know what you mean? Perhaps you can post a more detailed excerpt and we can translate for you. Are you new to swimming, or at least coached swimming?

I am new to swimming (as a sport).

    Here's my next workout. [h=4]W02D4-Easy Swim[/h]
    • Free and back mix, Z1, 200m. • Pull, working on an early catch, Z1, 200m. Rest, 20 seconds. Repeat 5 times. • Free and kick mix, Z1, 200m. • Use this session to loosen the legs from the past couple of days. Relax in the water and work on your technique.

I know what the zones are, I understand the distances. I'm not sure what I should do when it says, Pull or Kick and when I try to google items such as those, I usually get results that show different exercises/ways to improve kick and pull.

Here's another one. Notice the "Drill, Z1, 50m", is there a specific swimming exercise called Drill? Maybe I need a swimmers dictionary. [h=4]W01D5-Tech Swim[/h]
    • Free and back mix, Z1, 200m. • Kick, Z1, 25m. Rest, 20 seconds. Drill, Z1, 50m. Rest, 20 seconds. Swim, Z1, 75m. Rest, 20 seconds. Repeat 3 times. • Pull or swim, Z1, 150m. • Work on your recovery and catch at front of stroke.

  • Swimming workouts can get quite complicated until you learn the 'language'. I suggest you get a few lessons with a coach or join a swim squad at least for a few weeks. That way you'll quickly get to understand what is required. But to translate some of these for you:

'Pull' likely refers to using a pull buoy so that you can isolate the arms.
'Free' means freestyle (often called front crawl). 'Back' would be back stroke, 'breast' = breaststroke, 'fly' = butterfly, 'med' or 'medley' = a mix of each stroke.
'kick' means kick only either arms out in front breathing to one side or the other when necessary or using a kick board.
'Drill' can refer to any number of different drills depending on what you need to focus on. Some time with a swim coach or squad will help here.

Swimming is the hardest of the multipart disciplines to work on, not least because there are so many different drills.
