WHR not working, battery dead after 1 workout

hi,
my 2 month old fr935 is showing some erratic behaviour.
a couple days ago i noticed a software update took place during the night. Ever since the battery if my device gets drained very fast. Where it used to be possible to go for over 1 week per charge, now the battery is dead after 1 workout( started at 100% and ended at 3%).(this caused several workouts not to be registered on connnect for me because the device turns off when saving... real bummer this)
when i attach the watch to charge it, it sometimes states an immediate charge of 50%.

on top of this all, the WHR stopped working yesterday. No green lights are flashing, and the status is always ?measuring?

I did a factory reset of the device. With no success in getting the whr working again.
I attached the device to my computer and performed a software update. Alas, again with no success in getting it working.

Also tried turning the whr off, then turning off the device (hard poweroff by holding down the light button for 15sec) turning it on again and re-enabling the whr... alas, no success...

the whr software version is: 20.03.23 according to the device settings.

has anyone had the same? Realy annoying for a 700 euro watch to show this behaviour after only 2 months....

anyone with any ideas?
thank you in advance
  • Re-install latest firmware using webupdater.
    Master reset.

If neither of the above help, contact support.

    Forerunner 935

Have not seen the battery life issue but.

Yep similar problems had my watch for 3 months and has been very stable.
5 days ago after ver 6.00. wrist based heart rate stopped working, did a "resetting the device" heart rate now working again?
Then yesterday wrist based hr recons I was doing a flat 80 beats for 2hrs while mountain biking?? When I finished looked under watch and wrist HR not working again.
Did a swim that night and no lengths counted just time?

Looked back in my data and now sleep data for last few days as well?

Today I have tried Resetting device, no change no HR.
Did a Cleared User data, no change no HR.
Did a Restore All Default Setting, no change no HR. At this point also noticed no steps being recorded so do dynamics hmmmm not good thought OK time to take back to shop think the watch has died.

Did another Restore All Default Setting 4th reset today. Ahhh HR now working :-) steps working again maybe watch has recovered its-self, bit concerned that it will do it again tho.
Does seem to be related to Ver 6.00 firmware as this is the only change recently.

How do I re-install the latest firmware using webupdater?

I will try the reset to defaults once more.. that would be the third time then.

and how do I contact support?

    Hi

    Thank you for the response

I performed the steps in the webupdater twice....
it states that I should disconnect the device and allow it to start up.... but nothing happens when I disconnect it... it is not re-starting.
I did a manual restart, but that appears to have done nothing... (the stats of today are still there, while I would expect them to be erased after the device has been re-installed.)

  • Up to this point no one has stated it (or asked) but....GCM apps are not always (if ever) optimized for battery consumption, even moreso after a live release. If you are using for example a watchface that you downloaded, that may be the culprit. And yes it can be that bad after a update from Garmin like 6.00. Some developers might make a great watchface or widget, but they don't always support it, or support it at all! Remove all these from the watch, even one by one. See if any of them are contributing to the drain. If you find the one, great, if not, master reset (I know it stinks). If you STILL are getting a massive battery drain...call Garmin for a replacement.

    Hi

The drain is only there when doing a workout..
I have master-reset it a few times since my last workout. tonight I will be able to say more.
Untill now the battery life is normal (with no workouts)

The bigger issue however is the WHR which is not functional anymore.
I suspect this is/was the culprit of the drain as it is constantly trying to get data I think..
Tonight I will do a workout with the HR belt and see if the battery is drained or not.

I did not have any third party apps or widgets installed.

Anyhow, I contacted Garmin by phone to explain
They told me to send a mail to support to get a packaging label so it can be picked up for replacement.
Did that and the response I got (after I asked for a response on my ticket) was to go to my seller..... basically ignoring my request.

So far I am NOT happy with garmin's support at all...
I would suspect a bit more collaboration from garmin towards their customers. Especially when it is regarding a newly released state of the art device and flagship.

  • Any news on this issue?
Looks that I have exactly the same - battery drain during any workout (including pool with no GPS).
But I think mine is no connected to FW - I had 4.10 on watch immidiately, they discharged from 70 to 50 or so (30 min run) and then updated.
