FR935 updated to 5.10 - Power Save Timeout during activity (Bug)

Hello Garmin Community... My FR935 has been updated to 5.10 over wifi (Yet GE still displays 4.10). Everything seems to be working/functioning OK until I went out for an Activity. I have noticed that during the first 5 minutes of my 5K run, the watch automatically goes back to the main display (Watch Face). At first, I figured I have mistakingly pressed the back button, but this keeps happening even during Walk activities. When I try to get back to the activity screen, all data fields are displayed as normal, however; GPS signal is lost and RPD is disconnected. It reconnects automatically, and it remains connected until the end of an activity. So this only happens once during any Run/Walk activity.

It is really annoying because I can't keep looking at the watch every half a minute to make sure it remains active. The graphs come out very strange because of that unexpected pause. I haven't changed the timeout settings. As described in the manual, it goes into power save after 5 minutes of inactivity.

So I'm seriously puzzled. Changing it to Extended didn't change a thing.

Anyone else is having this issue?
  • Did you have the GPS locked on?
Have you power-cycled the watch since the update? If not try that first. I'm not seeing anything similar swimming or running.
  • I was out for two runs and a bike ride with 5.10 and haven't had this.
  • This would be explainable if the timer was not started as the timeout is 5 mins of "inactivity" when on the data pages. I presume you did start the timer?

Yes, I have power-cycled 3 times, and went out for a run 4 times and it still behaves the same way

When I first open the run app, I wait for the GPS to lock-on (and HR/RPD when I have them), then I immediately start the times and run. Cycling through the screen while running captures everything, time elapsed/cadence/pace etc. This is really weird. Never had this problem when I purchased it last month.
  • Is this 5 mins exactly? Can you post the GC link to see if we can spot anything odd.
  • I can't offer up much. Try a soft reset - hold power button until it turns off, then turn on again. If that doesn't work then a full reset might be the way to go. That's going to be one of the first things Garmin will ask you to do if you contact support. You could always try reloading the firmware.
  • I have also not seen any problems here. Have you actually watched it when it goes back to the watch face? Is it possible it is actually crashing and rebooting?

Thanks... I have did both Soft/Hard reset today. I will test it probably this weekend and confirm if that helped. On a side note: Previously, I have noticed that GE displays firmware 4.10 (and not 5.10), after the reset, it displays the correct firmware version.
  • Could it be you're hitting the hotkey for widgets by mistake? (long press Down is the default) The first thing you'll see there is the watch face.
