Recording different swim strokes

Hi all,

If mixing swim strokes, i.e some crawl and some breaststroke, why does it not record accurately? It recorded an extra 250 meters (or there about). My friend is learning the crawl and it looks deceiving knowing the distance is wrong and that he’s another 12 lengths to get to his distance as such.

  • The watch uses specific algorithms to detect which stroke is used. However t usessimple accelerometers, so slight deviations in stroke technique confuse it. That would be especially the case for a beginner who has not perfected strokes. The extra distance is likely due to not having a constant velocity, decelerating (stopping mid-length???) and accelerating, as well as not pausing the watch if resting on the wall. It can be corrected in Garmin Connect afterwards.
