What use is power intensity target for Garmin workouts when the workout screen can't display watts.

The workout screen can display HR but for HIITs it is generally accepted that power is a better way of monitoring intensity due to the delay in HR reacting to stress. Anyone got a workaround (switching to a different data screen for the duration of a 2 min power interval is neither practical nor safe for a cyclist) or a suggestion for a device that delivers this?
