Incomplete track recording

Hello,

I started experience track recording problem when running with my Forerunner 735xt. When running, it measures and displays more or less accurate distance and pace, but when I complete activity and review it in Garmin Connect, the track shows that I stopped running several kilometers before real finish.

I have seen something like that several times before (past summer). But in the past summer my Garmin simply stopped recording any of my movements.
I thought that it was GPS signal failure and my device simply did not recover from it (though, I must add that I run outside of city area and other GPS device which was with me worked just fine).

And now the problem was observed several times during this week, that's why I decided to ask for help on this forum.
As a side note: I have both GPS and Glonass enabled on my device and the track points are recorded every one second.

Please see today's activity if you like: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/3446634683
The problem can be observed since 1 hour 25 minutes approximately.

Can anyone help?
  • Somewhere on this forum I remember seeing a topic about the HRM-Tri causing a similar issue for long runs on the 735XT, although when I checked it myself, my FR735XT has no issues with the HRM-Tri for very long runs.

Not sure that this is the same issue: I am using HRM-Run and I observed the problem on a very short run (a bit more than 1 km) too :-(
  • Konstantin, would you be so kind and post the FIT file so one could have a look at what happened, when possible ;)

Please find FIT files for the latest 3 activities where the problem was observed.

3446634683 (2019-03-09).fit - the track stops showing any movements at 1:25:00 approximately.
3439376944 (2019-03-06).fit - the track stops showing any movements at 1:20:00 approximately.
3396989868 (2019-02-19).fit - the track stops showing any movements at 52:20 approximately.

If it can be helpful, I can share FIT (GPX, TCX, PWX, KML - whatever you like) files for these activities from my other GPS device which I started using together with 735XT since I met the problem.
  • If possible, I can collect additional information. Is there anything like 'debug mode' in 735XT or debug firmware?
I'm running quite often (130 km a week approximately) and I'm sure that I'll reproduce the problem once again sooner or later.
I hope it may help in troubleshooting the problem.

By the way, I wonder why there is no information about GPS signal strength/loss in 735XT during running activity.
At least some kind of notification, similar to 'Battery low"...
With this notification, the user will know that pace and distance information is no longer collected using geolocation.
  • OK, more than a month passed since I posted here about the problem.
I started turning off/on my Garmin and do sync with Garmin Connect before each run.

Unfortunately it did not help and the problem reproduced once again today.
It happened outside of the city, in fact there were no urban area around at all. It happened on the road surrounded by not very thick wood, with clear sky above - i.e. in perfect reception conditions.

I am starting to hate this freaking piece of plastic with Garmin word on it.
  • Hello, I cannot help but I'm facing now the same issue. really annoying;

  • Also missing 3km of yesterdayˋs run in my Garmin Instinct. Coincidence? Had the same issue some months ago.  Cleaning the Activity folder of the device seemed to help that time. Now, however, the activity folder was basically empty. When checking the files on my watch, I noticed several course files, that I had synchronised the day before to my Edge 1030, and obviously to my Instinct, too. Out of memory, again? The whole Garmin Instinct folder is 450kb in size. The watch has 16mb, so a memory issue is unlikely imho.
