LCTNS.FIT for custom locations, internal backup and restore of files?

Not sure what to call this topic, but I have been a happy user of IQMapReceiver to add custom locations to my watch. Recently it stopped working, even after contact with the developer and where everything appears to be fine (emulator for him and app gives no errors for me) it still doesn't save any locations anymore.

So I tried messing around myself, and what I noticed is that even when I manually replace or change the LCTNS.FIT file on the watch, after disconnectin it from the computer the original LCTNS.FIT file is placed back! This takes away any possibility to edit it with 3rd part apps somehow. Does anybody know more about this, or is there ANY way to add a location (apart from physically being there and adding it on the watch itself)? Would be great to be able to do this again.

I can't find anythin on the watch (throuh windows explorer) which could count as the backup.

ps. I know of the myplaces app, also very nice but would still like to be able to use the builtin stuff...

I connect the phone to the computer using the cable, it appears as an external drive in windows and then replace the LCTNS.FIT file in the Locations folder (which is where the Locations for your 'navigation' part are stored) and disconnect the phone...

I also copied this file to the pc, disconnected the watch, removed a location on the watch (changing the file on the watch), reconnected the watch, copied the file from the pc (containing the unchanged version) back to the watch and disconnected again. The watch still reverts back to the one with the location removed...

Next I also tried, connect the watch, delete the LCTNS.FIT file (it is then actually gone), disconnect the watch and poof... The stored locations are still there and when reconnecting the watch the LCTNS.FIT file is there again.

Perhaps it always acted like this, but not sure... doesn't really make sense to me. Just dying to figure out a way to add locations manually...
  • I recall had something similar when tried to edit some locations in the FIT File Repair Tool.

What I did to update was
    1. Delete the current file from the LOCATIONS folder
    2. Place the new one in NEWFILES

Take off USB and let it update...
