Garmin officially announced a bunch of new features coming to their cycling computers:

And I copy-paste: "Garmin and Strava are also teaming up to enable seamless syncing of Strava Routes to compatible devices".

Do I dare to dream that this feature is also coming to our beloved 735xt as I asked for it here?

Hopefully Garmin/Strava listened, fingers crossed!
  • Not sure but "syncing ... to compatible devices" kind of suggests some sort of course FIT file will appear on the compatible device and, given the 735 supports courses, we might be in luck - even if not initially seamlessly but you may be able to copy it over if you also have one of these Edge devices.

I would hope it happens by "starring" a course similar to "starring" a segment. If on the other hand Strava exports compatible FIT files (with pace data etc) that can be dropped into the \NEWFILES folder, I would gladly take that optino too :-)

I guess we need to keep an eye on the cycling forums to see how this feature materializes.
  • The ConnectIQ 2.x SDK has support for what they are calling downloadable content. Simply put, this is the ability to download GPX and FIT files containing Waypoints, Workouts, Courses, Tracks, or Routes to the device via a bluetooth connection to your mobile phone.

I'm betting that Garmin and Strava folks are partnering to write an app that will allow you access to your Strava account. This is really not very different from the Strava Suffer Score app that Garmin created earlier this year. Even if that app doesn't support the 735xt, it is likely that a developer would be able to write their own to do this for the 735xt.

Are you suggesting that the recently introduced Strava Live Segments on 735xt were implemented using this new CIQ API?

I actually don't like CIQ "Apps" at all but I do like Widgets, Datafields and Watchfaces just fine. I really hope they don't go that route but instead continue to add on the W, D, WF categories.

For example, I would love to have a Strava Watchface that pulls all my weekly stats (including cross-training etc) and shows my mileage progress towards my goal. Similar to what you can see on your Strava profile. In that sense, do you know if the new API is only accessible through Apps or also through Watchfaces/Widgets?
