Cadence Drill Workouts

Hi, I am fairly new to running and I'm in the middle of a Garmin 5k training program I've selected Jeff Galloway as my coach for the program.

But I am not sure if I'm doing the cadence drill workouts correctly. After the 15 minute warm-up, the directions on my watch are "run until lap press",

does this mean I am to run until my watch shows I've completed a 1-mile lap then to press the lap button so I can start my 4 30 second cadence drills/recoverys

or am I supposed to press the lap button as soon as my warm-up is complete to start the cadence drills/recoverys? I would appreciate

any advice about this. THANK YOU!

  • Hi Tommy, did you find out what you are supposed to do? I have my first cadence drill/acceleration glider drill tomorrow, and have the same question. My working assumption is going to be to just press the lap button after warm-up is over.

  • Yes,that is the way to do it.They have it that way incase there is a hill or traffic or something just so you can position yourself for the run

  • it is the same way for the glider drill to you have to press the lap button before it will start. I did my first

hill run today and you have to press the button when you position yourself at the bottom of the hill

  • Thanks Tommy - that is exactly how it went for me as well. First time I pressed the button 8 seconds late, so I have a weird 8 second lap in between. Makes sense to me; allowing you to make sure you're ready for the drill.

    Thanks for your response :-)

  • Just for clarification. My Garmin Watch will outline six steps:

    Warm up 10 minutes

    Run until Lap Press

    Run :30 seconds 150-200spm

    Repeat 3-4 2X

    Cool down 10 minutes

After warm-up (10 minutes) the message reads Until Lap Press

    Questions:

    1. Do I need to push the A button then walk a lap or do I push nothing and just walk a lap?

    2. Will the Garmin application automatically move me to Run :30 seconds 150-200spm

           and repeat 2X?

    Thanks for the help.

  • I don't understand the "Run until lap press" either

  • I thought it would automatically pop up and it wasn’t until during the run today that I realized that the lap button shops up when you stop the workout and you have the option to resume, save, or scroll down to find lap.  I don’t wear my glasses for reading while running so it was kind of hard to figure out.  I’ve come to the conclusion that before I actually do a workout from the coaching plan, I’ll need to pretend to do the workout while watching tv or something to make sure that I know what i need to push, the alerts, etc.
