Regarding Android File Transfer for 645M

Are folks using this IN PLACE OF Garmin Express, or IN CONJUNCTION with AFT?  My 645M is not seen when AFT is running. And I get error alerts to close AFT when Express is trying (and failing) find the watch and install workouts or software updates.

SyncMate did not connect to the watch at all.

Appreciate any and all guidance.

  • On the Mac the two programs are incompatible in that they each take over communication with the FR645M as you describe. I also find AFT a bit difficult to 'kill off' once installed, so that I can get back to using GE.

AFT's advantage is that it presents the complete directory structure on the watch, so if you want to back up or otherwise manipulate files on the watch as apparently Windows allows, that's the only free way that I know of.  GE's advantage is that it does the specific functionality most users need - loading audio, firmware updates, workouts etc.

For me personally I just use GE and disabled AFT.

  • Thank you for this explanation.  The problem though is the GE is VERY finicky or maybe buggy. Each time the watch is connected to the Mac, it takes 10-20 minutes to get it to - download software updates, transfer workouts, etc.

  • Interesting.  On my mac it is slow too, but usually only takes about a minute to show up.  Though often I start swapping the cable before that to other USB ports.  You might look through for any other USB drivers that might be conflicting?  Not that they will be dispensable for you of course...
