Steps didn't record

Today I had in excess of 3000 steps on my watch I then went for a 3.5km walk (which usually gives me approx. 3k steps) and now that i'm back I still only have 4245 steps in total for the day, has this happened to anyone else? How do I fix it?
  • Hi. There is no fix.

The only time mine doesn't count steps properly is when i push a push chair or hold something that stops my arm swinging.

Other than that it may just be a one off quirk.

Thanks bigdwasda, I only got the watch on Friday night, so still trying to figure it all out but I know the step count for today is totally wrong, I should be at about 7k steps - guess I won't meet my goal today :( hopefully it's a one off glitch.
  • Check in settings if Tracking didn't somehow become disabled.

ok so an update on this, I wrote down my steps today and had 2676 before I went for a walk, I set the walk up with GPS and walked for 4km when I got back my step count was 4231, which means I only recorded 1555 steps for the walk? Any previous tracker I've had a google searches have showed 1km to be approx. 1k steps, yet if I go for a run the steps appear to record accurately enough?
  • That's a little odd, inwalk fairly swiftly and for 3.2km get around 3400 so you should be on a higher amount.

Are you playing on a you phone while walking or doing anything that stops your arm swinging? This will cause it to miss steps. I had the issue pushing a pram but I wasn't too concerned as steps don't concern me, quality of steps does.

Hi, no I didn't have the phone with me, and I do swing my arms a lot when I walk. Not sure what's happening have sent an e-mail to garmin support, have set a custom stride length this afternoon, I just get annoyed not hitting my goal steps each day - when I know in reality I probably am.
  • I can understand that, stride length won't make any difference but contacting Garmin would have been my next suggestion. Let's hope they can diagnose the issue or replace it for you.
  • I know this is an old question. Did you get this figured out? I am so frustrated and garmin has been little help

    Thanks!
