Forerunner 55 Battery Drain Issue

I've had two instances where a fully charged Forerunner 55 showed excessive battery drain. I fully charged the device in the evening, wore it overnight, and the battery was down by 30-40% the following day. This was with no tracked activities. I've had previous Forerunner series watches that automatically went into activity mode when removed from the charger. I suspect something like that is happening here but unseen in the background. In other words, I suspect that the GPS hardware is getting turned on, causing the unexpected battery drain. I seem to be able to avoid the problem by pressing the Start/Stop button, followed by the Back button after removing the watch from the charger. Has anyone else seen this or similar behavior? Any other ideas about the issue or a solution? Thanks.

  • Ye. Hope they issue a fix soon. One of the reasons I went for the 55 was great battery life. Kinda sucks seeing it depleted after 2 days. Wonder if takealot will do a refund?

  • You can try but they are probably going to want to send it to Garmin for checking first and that will take weeks. With tech stuff they send it to their supplier and it sits with the supplier for ages - I had that with a bluray player with them years ago, it did not turn out well.

  • Someone has already tested the new software Beta update? It solved the battery drain issue ? Thanks

  • Hey guys, do you have feedback on this issue following the newest update?

For me personally... they stopped discharging suddenly and started to discharge consistantly at about 15% a day... which is not ideal because I tracked only 1 activity during the time
