Smart notifications not working

I stopped using my Forerunner 35 about 1 year ago when I purchased a 645. But my 645 is poised with software issues, so it's at a service center, and in the meantime I use my 35 again.

Yesterday evening my FR35 was using Miles for laps, when all the settings are set to km. I found a few thread already addressing this issue.

What I found now it that Smart Notifications work only for phone calls and SMS. They do not work for any other apps. Is anyone experiencing the same issue? Is it due to an update of the Garmin Connect app?

    I solved this issue by:

    - Removing my FR35 from the Garmin Connect app

    - Forgetting all Bluetooth Garmin devices on my phone (Android)

    - Resetting my FR35 (Settings -> System -> Restore defaults)

    - Pairing my FR35 with the Garmin Connect app.
