Touchscreen Issue Update

Hi all,

I recently purchased the forerunner 265s. Yesterday the touchscreen stopped working. I believe it was after the automatic update to version 16.17. I tried using the Garmin help, but they gave up after trying a few things (including a soft and hard reset). Has this happened to anyone else?

  • Still no luck, after multiple resets, power off/on, etc. 

    Yesterday when I put it on after work it seemed on but I had no HR until I checked it later and had to revive it. Battery was at 35% so it wasn't power. 

    It was the same thing. Dark and unresponsive display until much fiddling. The difference this time is that it appeared to have turned itself off.

    Does the touch function work on occasion, or not at all? Not at all

    Does power cycling the device make a difference? No

    Does toggling Touch off/on make a difference? No

  • Hi, I’m from Germany and did find the solution in another forum:

    “A bit of a search on Garmin Forums showed that others were having same problems with one bit of advice being to connect the watch to a PC running Garmin Express. I've just installed that and connected my watch. It showed everything as up-to-date with no further updates available BUT when I then disconnected the watch it said there was an update to install and on reboot the watch said something like "we're updating your touchscreen software". Touchscreen is back ... for now at least.”

  • Tried this myself, and touch screen has been restored. I note that the version number for the software has not changed. 

  • I’m also having some issues with my 265s.

    2. I’m in the UK. 
    3. Touch function works majority of the time but sometimes stops. 
    4. Turning off and on seems to resolve, until next time. 
    5. Haven’t tried this as it works most of the time. 

    I’ve woken in the morning to a black screen a few times over the last week or so. No buttons or touch screen give any display. HRM is illuminated so I know the watch is on. I then have to turn it off and on. 
    Also had some issues with syncing. Heart rate details all visible on the watch but garmin connect has large sections missing.
