Forerunner 245 - frequently disconnecting from Bluetooth

I have a non-music forerunner 245. These last few days, my week frequently disconnects from Bluetooth. It's happens intermittently, it's randomly disconnecting and reconnecting throughout the day.

I just did a full factory reset on my watch this morning and I'm still having the same issue.

Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

  • 6.04 has been out for almost 3 weeks, and even though the patch notes say they fixed it, it is NOT fixed.

  • Yes you are right. On my run today it worked for 2 K and then bad connection for the rest of the run

  • FIXED!! (at least for the issue on my Forerunner)

Thanks to 3386671 for the suggestion, but that didn't fix the issue for me.  I tried loads of things as this issue was SO annoying.  For me, the fix was:

I have my Forerunner paired to my phone.  The fix turned out to be uninstalling Garmin Connect app from the additional tablet device I had recently bought.

A bit more info ... I'd installed the app on the tablet to see info on a bigger screen, but not paired my Forerunner 245, as this is already paired to my phone.  I thought that having two android devices paired to same Forerunner would cause issues.  However, the Garmin Connect app, once logged in to my account on the tablet 'knew' that I used a Forerunner and the device watch icon was displayed in the app ... but not paired, of course.

I guess then that my Foreunner then became aware of the GC tablet app, which must have been broadcasting continual bluetooth pairing requests.  This caused the watch to display the pairing screen, pairing code and ultimately, the 'fail / try again' messages.  Removing the GC app from my tablet stopped my Foreunner attempting to pair with it ... no more messages !!

Probably not a fix for all cases, but hope this some of you ...

    cheers.

  • You're aware your issue is not what people are experiencing in this thread right?  No one is getting the pairing issues or try again messages, it's simply disconnecting from their watch frequently.

Please don't post massive "Fixed" things like that when you haven't even read the thread.

  • Sorry 7195111, not my intention to upset anyone.  My watch recently started intermittently disconnecting / reconnecting to bluetooth, happening throughout the day, so looking at OP's message, this looked pretty close to me.

You're right, others weren't getting the pairing message, so I probably should have spotted that.  I did point out in the title and in the text of my response that this fixed the issue on my forerunner and probably not a fix for all cases.

Hope your issue gets fixed …

  • @2613126 Thank You for Sharing, I've had this exact problem in the Past .It took me 3 days to find the problem.

  • Adding my issue - since the most recent update, BT connection during activity with GPS is terrible.

  • Same issue. Fr245 non music. Keeps disconnecting from my phone. I like to follow what is playing on my phone on the watch. Also audio lap alerts stop when the phone is disconnected.

  • I’m breaking up with my 245.

The Bluetooth connectivity is so unreliable - between safety reasons like live track not picking me up, no audio alerts during activities, to being useless for phone notifications within a meter and never during runs anymore, I’m going to use it like a 220 with wrist heart rate during workouts only because that’s exactly what it’s become.  I’ll miss my First Beat metrics.

The Bluetooth issue over the last few months has sworn me off off of future Garmins as an everyday wearable. I’d been considering a Fenix after having only used Forerunners going back to the 305, my favourite brick. The 610 was a touchscreen paperweight, so I turned to the 220. I even suffered through the physical defects with broken lugs on the 645 and still bought a 245.

PS I’ve tried everything everyone has suggested. Over the last 12 months the Bluetooth issue, live track not auto starting, the ransomeware issue, on top of the satellite drift issue - Garmin, after 14 years together, what happened?
