ANT/BT/BLE version 6.06 is now live

This update can be downloaded with Garmin Express or automatically with Garmin Connect Mobile pending rollout.

Change log:

  • Address volume control issue reported on Powerbeats Pro headphones (245M/945)
  • Various BT/BLE stability and performance improvements
  • Same for me with my new 245 and my oneplus 6T phone. My old forerunner 25 can connect to this phone.

  • I don't own a FR245M (only the regular version) but I wonder if someone ever made the following experiment ...

Maybe this could explain some "bad sound quality" issues reported by some users : do you see (hear) a difference when the same headphones are connected via the phone or the watch ?

A reason that could explain (experienced with other headphones) is that the phone does support aptX (HD) codecs while the watch doesn't.

This can be experienced if you connect for instance good headphones (e.g. Bose SoundLink II) over a phone (that does support bluetooth HD codecs) vs. a laptop (in my case dell latitude series ... that doesn't support high definition audio codecs). Through the laptop, the sound is terrible vs. the phones.

One of the reasons is that those HD codecs are subject to specific licensing ... which makes that these codecs are not necessarily supported/activated on some bluetooth chipsets.

A similar behaviour can be observed when sinking audio from a phone or a laptop towards a high end BT audio receiver.

The specs for the FR245M doesn't specify which codecs are supported ... so I"m just wondering if the issue could be that support for wideband codecs is just not available.

  • Replying to myself ... but this seems to confirm this point : forums.garmin.com/.../spotify-music-quality-on-245-music
