2.90 / 2.94 beta GPS accuracy?

Garmin Express is still informing me that my watch is up to date with 2.70, even though 2.90 has been out for a while. I can't find anywhere to manually download 2.90 on Garmin's website, however there is a download link for 2.94 beta.

Do either of these updates improve the accuracy of the GPS? It's currently very inconsistent for me.

After sharing some activity links with Garmin support, they believe my watch is defective. I should have a replacement on Wednesday, fingers crossed it works properly this time.

I got the replacement yesterday, I've walked several times with it (around 10k), tried GPS soaking at home and at work, seems just a bad as before, rarely keeps me on the right side of the street and zig zags all over the place. I'll take it out fro a run tonight but so far I'm very disappointed.

Post run, here are the results. My actual route is in blue.

  • I think 2.90 was for non-music 245 variant.  Probably why the OP didn't see it in GE.  Maybe you should have checked before posting the gcd.

    how was the run ?

my guess would be better, because of the higher speed and stronger arm-swing

The run was a little faster than usual. However I can't really tell if I'm running a bit further in a faster time  due to the watch cutting so many corners, about the same, or actually a bit less due to it going wide in certain sections.

these days you do not recognize when a post is being updated FrowningWink

not so nice tracking result after the exchange...

explanation would be the surroundings like:

metal constructed buildings, power lines above or below ground

there was once a post about speed anomalies on an industrial track along a canal or river (memory is playing with me)

    Update.

After some really bad tracks on my replacement 245, Garmin support are saying the watch works fine. This is at odds with their earlier assessment of the original watch which was performing in a similarly poor fashion.

Before starting any activity I would sync the watch with Garmin Connect, go outside, wait for a GPS lock, then go.

I dusted of my first gen Vivoactive and did the same routes. It has consistently provided better accuracy.

Patience exhausted, I’ve returned the 245.
