Abnormal Heart Rate Pattern

Dear all

The following pic are comparison of my heart rate recorded during running at almost similar route. The upper pic recorded on Nov 10th 2019, while the lower one on Jan 5th 2020. The Jan 5th heart rate escalated almost uniformly, and then stay at 161. This happened in all of my runs since Dec 3rd 2019 and before that, the heart rate patterns while running is similar to the upper pic. I noticed I may have experienced OTS a week prior to Dec 3rd since my RHR are slightly higher then usual (78 compared to 60)

Is this normal? Or do I have a condition to my heart where I should concern? Or perhaps does my FR235 is faulty? Thanks in advance.

  • There is clearly something wrong with the second picture. There is no way a heart rate would go like that. Looks like the heart rate was captured in very few points only, and the rest was interpolated.

Additional question: What was the timeframe of that activity?

Both are at around 33 min

FYI, once it reach 161 it cannot go any higher (so far). Before this I can run up to Z5

  • This is a watch firmware configuration, if heart rate sensor is not locked on well to your real HR....it will slowly ramp up to approximately what it thinks it is.  Not sure if that is from Pace / HR relationship in the past or from little bits of HR info that it is picking up with the sensor....

Tip:  try to have watch snug and on the active run page (waiting for GPS...) a bit longer, allowing the sensor to pick up your heart rate.   Watches in the past used to notify you 'heart rate ready' as well as gps popup... but they removed that setting a couple years ago IIRC.
