Multiple issues with Garmin 230

I'm wondering if other people are having the same issues with their watch as I am, I'm not sure if I should try and do a warranty claim - or if they are all like this!

Issue 1: my watch has really been struggling connecting to GPS (Glonass is turned on). It can take up to 10 minutes (Normally its about 2)... I can't always wait that long, especially when I'm commuting. If it FINALLY connects part way to work, then it doesn't even track distance - just time. Last week when this happened, it wouldn't measure distance at all until on subsequent runs/rides I fully turned in on and off again (I lost a couple days of workouts).

Issue two: Now, just a few days after last week's watch reboot the response time to the buttons was about 30 seconds long and it wouldn't connect to bluetooth. Once again, I had to turn it on and off to get it working properly.

Its frustrating as I just want it to connect to GPS and work! I don't really have time to mess with my watch when I'm trying to get out the door. Sometimes it works just fine though.... Should I try and do a warranty claim or will the next one be the same?

Frustrated :(
  • my gps connects almost instantly, button response is as you'd expect it to be and i have no problems connecting with bluetooth

your watch sounds broken. send it back and get a new one
  • Which FW you're on?

I had an issue similar #1 but with 'other' activity profile.
Counter running, GPS connected, but no distance.
Stopped activity and started again - no change.
Switched to run - worked fine.
Switched back to other - same issue.
    Reboot solved the issue.

#2 and #3 - never experienced anything like that.
Longest was maybe 5 min and that was )I think) after not using the watch and the not syncing sat location.
  • Do you use the Garmin Express desktop app or just the mobile app to synchronize? If it's the later I would recommend you to try to sync with a computer with the USB cable, that's the conclusion that I had about the satellite sync for my case (my phone is android).

For the responsivness issue, you may have to reset your watch completely and see if it continues. But on my side I also have weird issues that I can't figure out like time that suddenly get completely out of sync (had to manually set it), or some freeze that were sorted out only after a hard reboot of the watch (the one with the three buttons hold for 10secs).
