"Other" Activity Profile with GPS off not recording distance

I have the Garmin Forerunner 235 and I would like to use the "Other" Activity Profile that comes installed on the watch to separate Elliptical training from my other indoor running. However, while using the "Other" Activity Profile nothing relating to distance, pace, cadence etc. is recorded and the watch only captures my heart rate and time. I've tried using the "Other" profile on the treadmill and walking around an indoor track and no distance (with GPS off) is recorded. The "Indoor" profile (with GPS off) works as it should. I sent a few couple emails to Garmin and also placed a call to their customer service and they don't seem to know what the "Other" profile is used for. I was told they "think" its used for other activities such as hiking. So, should I be able to use the "Other" Activity profile on the watch with GPS off for indoor activity and have distance, pace, etc. metrics recorded?

My watch is updated to the latest firmware 3.30.

I believe the "Other" only records HR, time and calories burned, but I may be wrong. I use it with the GPS off for weightlifting where steps, speed, pace and distance isn't a factor. I can't think offhand why I'd need to use the "Other" activity with the GPS on.
  • I noticed this also. So I always use "run indoor" if I want steps i.e. distance estimation. Did this on my eliptical crosstrainer, however a "stride" there seems more like on a bike... It gave me an estimation of 2,7km for a 40 min workout. If I would run the same time with the HR I had I would rather go 6Km.

You can always rename the activity in GC later on. I do this when playing tennis indoors. Even if the strides in tennis are probably much different from just running it at least gives me an idea.
