You need to be in Sensors and Accessories and probably need to take off your watch so it is right next to the foot pod. Do this when walking to ensure the foot pod is awake. That all said is this foot pod a Garmin one and so an ANT device?

Thanks for the reply, I've tried that many times. Yeah, the cadence sensor and foot pod are both Garmin. We bought two of the watches one syncs of to their devices and the other doesn't see anything.
So you have paired this foot pod to the other watch?
If so maybe there is something wrong with this watch. We have seen here some reports of similar issues but worked OK with a replacement device.
Have you been able to pair this watch to anything else like a HR strap?
Every device pairs fine with the other 235 and the also with the original 220's, I just tried pairing a HRM to it and it's a no go with the defective watch.
