235 Battery Life

Does anyone know if the HR optical sensor is turned off on the 235 will the battery life be the same as the 230/630? I would like to have the HR function but I'm worried the up to 11 hours of battery life will be less in less than ideal conditions and the watch will turn off mid-activity.
  • Hard to say on a device nobody seemingly has yet!
However you can charge this one on the go so if you want to run for more than 11 hours there is that option.

Battery life: 11 hours training, 9 days watch + activity tracking + notifications + heart rate

I think it will be alright if you are training for a couple of hours a day.

What if you turn the HR monitor off when you're not using it? Is there that option in the settings? Some of the folks from the FR230 threads are getting pretty good time on a single charge. I really don't care what my HR is sitting on the couch watching football or walking at work. I just want it during my workouts. I know everyone will say then get the 230, but I don't want to carry around another device and keep it charged and clean. I just want to be able to turn on the tracking/HR and go.

    Any thoughts?
  • You can switch continuously hair rate monitoring off

No worries, you can just switch off the all-day heart rate monitoring.
When switched on in 'smart' mode it will also stop monitoring at some moments (mainly moments when you are at rest).

the question is can i turn off the 24/7 completely but only activate the HRM when the running mode is "running"?

for what you described, it does not turn off the 24/7 completely thou. it is not just going to activate the HRM when user is at rest.

The FR235 doesn't turn the HRM on and off for you. You want it to turn on when you select an activity then back off when the activity is over. It will not do this. You will have to turn it on and off with each use.

Edit: I might be wrong. I did a test on my Vivosmart hr while I'm at work today. When you turn off the heart monitor it will still turn on and off when you start an activity. Not sure about the fr235 since I don't have it to test at work.
