Issues with indoor running and outdoor gps

After having had a TomTom sports watch for several years, I decided to try something new, and I bought a Garmin Vivosport. I love the possibilities in the app, so I couldn't wait to start running with it. That's when the disappointment started. I decided to bring both my Garmin and TomTom with me, and while Garmin told me I ran 5 km, TomTom told me I only ran 4,7 km. When checking the track I ran, I saw a lot of differences. For example, Garmin thought I was walking somewhere near the road, and TomTom thought I was running on the road. TomTom was right. So I'm pretty sure that TomTom's distance is correct.
Is there a way to make my new watch more accurate?

Today I took it for another run, indoor this time. And again, I was disappointed. I ran 1,81 km, and Garmin thought it only was 1,5. Pretty big difference I think! On my TomTom there was a possibility to calibrate the watch after I was done running, so it would upload the correct information. Now I can edit the information later, but only in Garmin Connect. I can't download a tcx with the correct information, to upload to Strava for example. How can I fix this?

Thanks!
