VM3 with Polar H10 Heart Rate Monitor...

If you are interested in purchasing an H10 for use with your VM3, it will work perfectly, IF you choose an activity. If the H10 is paired, but you are not currently in an activity, the connection will drop after a few minutes of idle time. At least this has been my experience in the past day of H10 ownership.

If you want to use the H10 in place of the wrist sensor when not exercising, just choose an activity and don't save it at the end of your monitoring period. Other owners may have different experiences, so please chime in if you do. For me, I am only interested in using the H10 when exercising, so I am ok with this.

The great news is that the H10 is superior to the VM3 wrist sensor in accuracy and response. I checked the H10 against the two-hand style heart monitors in the treadmills at the gym (new Life Fitness model), and the H10 tracked faster and was within a beat or two. The VM3 wrist sensor was nowhere near as accurate as it could stray 10 or more beats away from the treadmill, and it wasn't nearly as responsive - plenty of lag.

Hope this helps another new H10 owner!

  • Wow - I just started using my H10 after 6+ months of living with the on-board VA3M wrist sensors.  I wanted a more accurate HR reading for running and dug-out my H10.  I found that the H10 has a couple of updates, most notably that the H10 now supports ANT+.  This is big for Garmin owners.

But, I just couldn't get the H10 to reliably work.  So I was about to post a question here and I found my own post from 9 months ago with the exact answer I needed!

If you have an H10, the only way to get it to get/stay connected with BT or ANT+ is to choose an activity!  Just pairing and running with the H10 will be unreliable IME.

    Brilliant!!

    Must be getting old...

  • Thank you, this helps (although a little disappointing for tracking with HR widget while asleep). Over a decade ago I switched to using Garmin due to disappointing experiences with Polar products, but today bought the H10 and it is clearly more accurate based on knowing my general heart behavior working with my cardiologist. I've been using the older Garmin G1 straps and they read high. They actually track somewhat closely to the optical on my Vivo3 which is reading over 25 BPM higher than the Polar just sitting here typing this! (I'm using my Edge 1000 to read the H10 since the Vivo3 HR widget is playing dumb with it despite pairing and connecting alternatively with ANT+ and BTLE).

  • how do you pair h10 with vivomove 3s ? I cannot find instructions anywhere

  • I don't think the Vivomove can connect to external heart rate sensors, it can broadcast it but not receive.
