What would make my vivofit 3 go from time to about and not switch back without doing a reset

About a week ago my vivofit 3 started going from the time I press the button then it goes through the the menu to about and won't switch back until I reset the device.

What would cause this and how do I fix it?

Could it be an issue with an IQ watch face or app?

The Vivofit 3 doesn't support Connect IQ or watch faces - it's a simple step tracker.

There's something else going on - probably worth contacting Garmin support.
