GPS not getting a lock (I suspect the problem is SW 5.80)

Hi,

I have a Vivoactive 3 Music and the GPS hasn't been locking for a couple weeks. Most often it doesn't work at all. Sometimes it records the first or last few hundred meters of a 12k run

I've searched and tried every suggested solution (refresh EPO, leave watch outside in a field, reset everything, etc.) and nothing works.

Today I looked back and saw that GPS stopped working between my July 17 and July 18 runs - it turns out that the last good run was done with 5.60 firmware and the first bad run was with 5.80 firmware.

I can't find the old version to reinstall 5.60 because it expects Express and Connect to handle it automatically, so I can't confirm for sure. But I do want to post this in case anyone (a) has any information (b) knows how to install old firmware versions or (c) is having the same problem and wondering why.

    You can check if one of the beta releases is available. When you sync it will upgrade to 5.80 again and be aware that you lose all settings when going to an older release of the firmware. I would connect the watch to express once in a while, since it seems the GPS data is refreshed in that sync rather than on connect. I do not experience any issues with GPS on 5.80.

    Thanks, I will give rolling back a shot to at least try to confirm whether it's the 5.80 (perhaps in combination with my particular hardware) or not. Will be a challenge not to let it sync though :)

    You can probably disable bluetooth on your phone before you put the upgrade file through USB on the watch. At least you should be able to test GPS but of course without syncing any activities ;-).

    Just had a spare moment to try and unfortunately the 5.61 is no longer available (it 404s). Any chance it is in someone's downloads folder?

    btw, I also tried the 5.81 beta and no dice there either

    I got it, installed, and unfortunately it still doesn't get a lock. Have updated to 5.81 and also 5.90 and still no dice, so I think it's pretty clearly a hardware problem - not related to firmware. Thank you for helping me debug this.

    I've put in a support request to Garmin a few days ago (as I only got this watch in May and nothing has happened to it aside from normal wearing and charging) but no response. I'll update this thread with the rest of this process, but the original post has been answered.
