Wrist HR not working after 5.40 update

Since the 5.40 update my watch will not measure my heart rate. The green lights don't flash and the widget just says measuring...Sensor version is 0.00 and WHR version is 0.00.00...everything worked fine prior to this update.  Please help.

  • Looks like an upgrade defect, sensor should be 3.20, WHR 20.03.31 . You can try to go back to 4.90 and then again upgrade perhaps. Download the beta, connect the watch to the PC, rename  GUPDATE_490.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD and move it to the GARMIN directory.

Got exactly the same issue. Downgrading to 4.90 and upgrading back didn't help. Have you managed to fix this?

Nope. Spoke with a Garmin service rep regarding this issue and was ultimately told to return the watch back to Garmin and they would send me another one.  Unfortunately, it takes 2+ weeks to receive the new device.

Sounds like there are smarter people than me on this thread, but I just want to report that it seems like 5.4 is working OK on my VA3M.

I do see some weirdness in my HR lately, like the rate will bump up by 10 BPM in the middle of a run and then drop back by about that much a short while later. It's hard to say if that's real or not. I intend to try doing a parallel measurement with my phone/chest strap to see how they compare.

(Does anyone know if I can run the chest strap and optical HR at the same time?)

  • Please report issues to Garmin Support. There are multiple people complaining, but just a few reports.
