Stair count is low...

Just moved from a Fitbit Versa to the Vivoactive 3 and while there is lots to like, I can confirm the stair count is very low. I check the accuracy by climbing stairs at work and it is not counting them fully.  Should have been 4. Got 3. Went up a flight of stairs and got 0.

Morning walk normally 17, got 8 etc etc.

Any ideas?

Running 6.90.

  • This is a common problem for the Vivoactive 3.

And never fixed? May need to return then as I like tracking that.

  • Nope. If you look there are a lot of posts regarding this problem

Bummer. So many other trackers get this part right.

  • I get pretty consistent results.

I live on the 4th floor of my 12 floor building. On the way to my building's gym, I climb the stairs to the 12th floor first and then walk down, By climbing the 8 loors, my VA3 consistently credits me with 6 floors. We have relatively low ceilings in our building so I can't really tell if there's 10 feet between floors which is how the VA3 should calculate. I just call them "Garmin" floors. One time, I was only credited with 2 floors and another time I was credited with 7. However, 90% of the time, 6 is the answer for me.

    I'm happy with that.

Sounds like I will just have to change my daily targets to Garmin stairs.

Ok something is really weird. Went on a walk and elevation change up was 44m. So that should be 44/3 flights of stairs based on Garmins 3m per flight algorithm. So i should have at least 12 recorded.

    Watch shows 5! Wife's fitbit says 17.

Still running 6.9 and today the stair count seams much more accurate. The morning walk was 14 I think today. Same walk as always.

I work from home were we have 1 step and i pedal on my under the desk bike. my va3 had me at 15 floors of stairs at the end of the day which isnt good for me especially for me when im under a supervised calorie count diet and the floors are adding to active calories
