Garmin Vivoactive 3 Battery Drain

OK. Done with Garmin. Buying Samsung Galaxy. I paid $350 to preorder the Vivoactive 3 14 months ago. After the last software upgrade my watch battery drains in about 3 hours. This is after interacting with Garmin CS 3 times including a watch reset and also deleting files in my Garmin app and sending my Garmin folder to CS. Only made things worse!! Garmin CS told me this was an issue with the Vivoactive 3 but because my watch is 14 months old and past the warranty period they offered to replace for $99. What a deal. I get to buy another potentially defective watch for another $99. I told them I will buy another watch on Black Friday or Cyber Monday and it WON'T be a Garmin. Lousy company that tells you it is their issue but you can pay for it. $350 for around a year's use? I think not. Please post your Vivoactive 3 battery issues and bring this company back to its senses. The only thing they'll understand is loss of profit.

This is not a case of battery degradation since - also in my case - this started happening only after the upgrade to 6.9 and it was a radical change, from 8-9 days down to less than 1 day

I also did everything suggested here

    - deletion of folders + full reset + run or walk with GPS for 2 minutes afterwards + charging to 100% shutting down the device and power it up with the charger + beta 6.94 + back to 6.90 and all again

I haven't tried voodoo magic yet but as an engineer I'll avoid it for now

  • Wise. Voodo never solved anything in engineering before.  I would cast my chips on 'Hope' first.

I'm having this battery problem too, I couldn't find anything that could be causing it. I might go back to me vivoactive HR, which had way fewer problems than this watch, kept the watch face I selected for it, was a workhorse, etc. If anyone has solutions, I'd be excited to hear it.

  • Wow,  I can't believe this battery issue.   My VA3's been just fine averaging 3-4 days on a full charge.  SW version 6.90 didn't seem to affect it and I haven't done anything different.  I haven't updated to version 7 yet but for the past week I can't seem to get a full 24 hours from a full charge.

    What gives????

  • I can totally relate to your (rightful) frustration. As I wrote in another thread: totally fed up with Garmin. Just want a working product, not an update every few weeks that doesn't solve the issues and more often than not create different problems. I won't spend my money on Garmin watches anymore. I've learnt that lesson.

  • Same thoughts I have!!

  • Me too had problems after v6.90, even now with v7.00 the same problem persists. Previously everything worked fine.

From 100 to around 90% of the battery it drains in a matter of hours, never happened this before v6.90.

Indeed, 1 field connect IQ data fields drain my battery around 20%/h, this is insane! Even without using the GPS...

  • How do you know which widget/field individually is consuming more ?

  • With BatteryMonitor widget

  • I haven't had too many issues with battery drain but I run a lot using the GPS so my battery drains fairly quickly. As someone who has tried other wearables this seems to be a common issue. Updates with fitbit were always a complete nightmare and disaster. My charge 3 was the only device I had that actually lasted the advertised length of 7 days.
