Text Message contents only showing "New Message"

Samsung galaxy note 8, with the Vivoactive 3. I seem to have a problem where I can only receive the content of a text message when I'm using the phone's default messaging app... :-/

(I use chomp SMS, instead of the default Samsung messages app.)

First I thought the problem might be with the settings in the messaging app itself, as I had "Hide content on lock screen" set in the phone's notifications settings. I changed it to "show content on the lock screen", but it didn't make any difference.

I changed to the default Samsung messaging app, and then I see the name of the sender of the text message and the actual message that was sent, as it should be. As soon as I switch back to the messaging app I want to use on my phone, text messages go back to showing the name of the sender, but the content of the message is still "New Message".

I really hate the default Samsung messaging app! Can't imagine why this would not work properly with other messaging apps… Any ideas community? :-) Appreciate your help in advance!

    I am having the same problem with Moto g(7) power using Pulse as my SMS app. I, too, would appreciate any help.

    Just received Garmin Lily as a gift.  I am unable to view text messages on the watch unless I use the standard Samsung Texting app (thanks to jraines for the tip). I concur that the Samsung texting app is lacking and is not one I want to use. Please make texts appear on the watch using non-Samsung texting apps!  My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S10.  I prefer the Verizon messaging app.

    I was able to fix this problem by changing the notification in my texting app to show message content on the lock screen phone notifications.  I hope this info will work for you!

    Thank you 1120140!  I appreciate a work-around! 

    Garmin, I would prefer not to have the content of my text messages on my lock screen.  Thank you!
