New Vivoactive 3 Music will not maintain connection to Connect Android app

Title says it all...

I have a new Vivoactive 3 Music (V3M), which I've managed to pair to the Connect app on Android, but as soon as I've paired it the V3M and Connect app lose connection.

I've tried all the usual stuff such as toggling Bluetooth off and on; restarting the phone; restarting the V3M. Nothing works.

Phone is a Moto X Play running Android 7.1.1
BLE on the phone works fine with other BT devices.

No idea what to do next. The V3M is essentially unusable for me currently. Any suggestions?
