There’s probably not a technical reason behind it, it’s simply because the Vivo series is classified more as «lifestyle» products, and implementing more advanced features would hurt the sales of their higher end devices such as the Forerunner and Fenix series.
I think SAHO is spot on. The Vivo series are activity trackers and not sport oriented devices like the Forerunner or Fenix series. People want them to perform the same way, but in reality they're designed to be different. I'm not trying to sound condescending, but it doesn't matter what the user expects. It's up to the manufacturer of the device; in this case Garmin, to define and label their products and functions.
I get recovery time on all my Garmin fitness devices including my VA1 so I can't believe it doesn't exist on a VA3. Do you wait the full 2 minutes before saving your activity?
pshare Believe it. The VA3 doesn't have recovery time. If you go to Garmin's website and select products and then "compare", the VA3 doesn't have recovery time when you compare it to devices that has that capability, such as the FR645/735/935.
pshare Are you maybe confusing recovery HR with recovery time?
I can confirm that I got recovery HR when I had the VA3 if I waited two minutes after stopping an activity before saving it. (Number of bpm hr drop during the two first minutes). This is a feature which is suppose to say something about how fit you are.
Recovery time however is a totally different feature which says something about intensity and duration of a workout, and it gives you an estimate and countdown of how long you should wait before your next (hard) workout. I’m not sure but I suspect it also adjust if it detects that you are recovering faster/slower than initially estimated. The VA3 does not have this feature, neither does it have Training Effect which I believe Recovery Time is closely linked to.
I also miss that the Vivoactive does not have the Recovery Time Advisor.
I appreciate the feature of the Vivoactive HR, that when an activity is recorded, the screen can be changed to whatch for instance the heart rate widged. On my foreronner 235, I can t do this. I can t change the screen to the heart rate widged while recording an activity.
On the other hand, the recovery time advisor is missing on the vivoactive HR. So when I train for instance Meditation for calming the mind, i use both, the heart rate widget, and the recovery time advisor. So two devices are needed to do that.
Integrate the Recovery time Advisor in the Vivoactive GARMIN, i miss this feature in this whatch. For me personally, it is a reason not o buy the Vivoactive anymore.
my $.02 is that the recovery time is an overrated feature and you're better off just listening to your body and being intelligent about not overdoing things
for recovery time to be really useful, the watch should take several other factors into consideration which i do not think it does: age/ resting hr / how much sleep you got recently / type of future activity you have in mind (eg, a swim the day after a long run is prob not that bad, but another long run may be a bad idea)
perhaps garmin "recovery time" does take these (and other) factors into consideration?

Agreed. I'll do a weight lifting workout and really push myself where am sore the next day. Because my HR doesn't get elevated very high while lifting, I'll get 6-8 HR recovery time when you should have a least 24 hrs to rest and recover those muscles used.
Recovery time is helpful, when we are overstressed or overtrained, Pay attention to reduce it, and we gain back the ability to do it intuitively. Therefore i miss recovery time in the vivoactive HR,
