Battery life after update

After the most recent update which my device uploaded thursday my battery life has tanked from about 7-8 days(I dont use the GPS often using my edge 520 for most activities) down to about 3 days, after yesterdays charge its down to 70% in only 24hrs, I've deliberately gone through all of my settings to maximize battery life but cant find what could have been changed to cause double the battery utilization. Currently running 5.4, I use this primarily for 24/7 HR tracking.
  • After updating to 5.40 i did reset to factory settings (Press to turn on with Logo -> Release then press and hold (quickly!) Release when it vibrates 2 times, wait for 3rd vibration then press and hold until the 4th vibration) and my battery life even improved a little bit compared to 5.20.

I charged the watch some 76 hours ago, I did about 1.5-2 hours of GPS activities and I'm sitting at 34% charge now which to me is ok and inline with specification.

Do you have any old widgets/apps/watchfaces that could be eating up battery with new firmware?

    My settings are:

    Brightness - 20%
    Vibration – LOW
    Gesture – OFF
    Widgets: NO widgets
WatchFace - stock digital Garmin face with seconds line active.
    Move bar - OFF,
    Connect/disconnect alerts - OFF
    Notifications - ON
    Move IQ - ON
    Auto Activity Start - OFF
  • Try resetting the VA3 ... just press & hold the button until it reboots.

I've found that fixes many problems.
  • Im not using any apps or widgets, im using a default simple digital watch face with seconds bar and almost everything turned off, I will try a hard reset and see if it improves things then move onto restoring defaults. basically im using defaults with things turned off from there nothing installed from connect IQ
  • I am not really seeing any difference since the last update. about 20-25% per day with my activity levels. Getting about 4 days

I’ve got the same problem. Since 5.20 the battery drains 20% about every 12 hours. The same for 5.40. I did a factory reset. Erased al data so the watch’s memory was totally wiped. No improvement!
But this is not the only problem. Taking stairs is not recorded anymore ever since 5.20.

The best firmware was 5.00. Everything worked fine. The battery drained about 10% every 12 hours. Like it should according to the specifications.

Anyone know how to revert back to 5.00?
  • For me 5.4 is slightly worse on battery usage than 5.2 but stair counting works a lot better

    Do you have 5.40?

My wife also got the vivoactive 3 this weekend and she is also on 5.40 now. Three problems remain like with my VA3:

    - counting stairs doesn’t work
    - active minutes doesn’t work
    - battery drains 20% every 12 hours

Who else regonises this with FW 5.40?

  • Same feeling guys... Charged my battery at 230 am and i didnt wear while sleeping, Got up and now around 5pm the battery is 84%.. i used to get 7-8 days, i sync every alternate day and its a new one (less than a month)...
brightness is 0%, no widgets, seconds line on watch face is active.. I had steps issue in 5.20 but havent tried yet on 5.40.... On overall yeah battery life sucks... will check stairs and active minutes and update as soon as i can...

Update1: Stair count is working as expected and so is active minutes. the only issue i have so far is battery life which is now at 77% (for 18 hours since full charge)... i did reset the watch like long press and turn on again... will see and update again...

feel free to drop your opinion if any fix is found for battery life :)
  • Simply serious battery drain....
Updated to 5.4 2 days ago
I switch off every time I go to bed
Last night before I switched off the battery was at 4X%
this morning I woke up, turned on my watch and found it has only 31%
before it never happened to have such battery drop
cant believe such battery drain even when the watch is off :(
  • Same problem here. After updated version 5.4, it drains from 20% up to 40% per day.
I cannot find a way to rollback to old version.

    Here is my setting
    1. only backlight when touch and brightness 10%
    2. 7x24 heart rate
    3. no bluetooth connection
