VA3M Screen Durability and Protector

Hello,

My VivoActive 3 Music should be on its way soon. Although I'm super excited but have some concerns regarding the screen durability. The rounded bezel may easily bump on hard surface and crack the screen.

Actually Rizknows did a comparison and in his video he mention he cracked the screen of the VA3M on the 1st day (https://youtu.be/dauxqPWbx60?t=537) ! Not very re-assuring...

Has anyone already found some 9H 2.5D type screen protector for the VA3M?

Thanks a lot,

Ben

I have to admit, I am worried about cracking the screen too. Might have to wait and see how it fares out once more people use it....
  • I have installed the IQShield screen protector on my VA3M and found the install process to be straightforward, and was pleasantly surprised how well the protectors manage the curved edge. The Glass is completely covered by the film based protector and I have trouble seeing the gap between the case and the film as it rests on the glass.

Like any film based protector, it's not as perfectly smooth as the glass it's protecting, so that's a bit of a down side.

While not a traditional fitness activity, I've been wearing my VA3M while doing prep work to paint my house, which involves a lot of scraping and bumping into things, especially while preparing the stone foundation. I can confirm that the film has taken a beating based on some temporary marks that were left behind. After having to scrape off some paint scuffs that stuck to the film, the film remains clear and 100% usable, though I can tell it's not the same as when freshly installed. What impressed me the most is that despite the abuse, the film over the curved edges did not come loose at all. I suspect that, without the protector, the glass would have suffered at least some permanent scratches.

Verdict: If you're hard on your wrist based devices like I am, the film based protector works great. Furthermore, there are 6 of them in the IQShield packaging, so if it does end up getting too messed up, you've got plenty of replacement films. I don't anticipate seeing a glass based protector that can wrap around the curved edges of this screen anytime soon.

  • I wore my watch on my left arm when doing a crit race and came off fairly spectacularly on one corner. I have fairly bad road rash from on my left elbow and left knuckles. It all happened really fast going from where my injuries are i'm pretty sure the glass face of my watch must have come into contact with the tarmac.

Literally not a scratch on it.

Happy days! (won't be wearing it next time though).
