All sorts of issues with VO2 Max

So apart from other random bugs I see, the issues with VO2 max seem particularly plenty:

1- On my VA3 if I initiate my walking/running activity from the VO2 max measurement screen, it doesn't count my activity toward intensity minutes - this is despite my HR reaching as high as 180 during my run.
2- If there's already a VO2 measurement in place on Garmin Connect, a newer VO2 measurement doesn't update it at all. Right now my watch shows a VO2 of 49 (measured yesterday) while the website still shows 50 which was measured before new year.
3- Sometimes the new VO2 measurement doesn't get saved on the watch either. I did one last week, the result, 50, was shown right after. However when I checked later, it was still showing the last measurement being done before new year.

This really seems like alpha-version software unless this is specific to my VA3.
  • It's not clear to me why you'd need to use the "Test Now" function to measure VO2. Doesn't it automatically do that when you go for a run or walk of at least 15 minutes?

  • No it doesn't. It seems like once it measures VO2 Max the first time it never tries to update it. Mine says last measured at Dec 28th despite me running multiple times since.

I've tried resetting to factory settings and it hasn't helped.
  • Any time it detects a change, up or down, in Vo2Max it should update both on the watch and on Garmin Connect. Keep in mid that Vo2Max won't be measured for treadmill walks and runs.

If you're doing these activities outside and using the Run activity profile on the watch it should be updating. If it's not I'd contact Garmin support directly.

  • Yes all the said activities have been outdoors. I've sent an email since their chat feature is always busy. Hopefully they'll have a useful response.
