Display timeout during the activity

Is display timeout during the activity somehow buggy? It was working as expected until last update:

I've following settings:

Settings > System > Screen > Timeout > Short
Settings > System > Screen > During activity > Timeout (options are 'Timeout' vs 'Always On')

I don't need screen always on during an activity, just checking data every now and then, but realized in Walk, Indoor Walk and Run, my settings don't work and screen is always on.

When I turn my wrist for the very first time, the screen wakes up an show data fields, but it doesn't turn off when I put back down my wrist and continue to run/walk in a natural position.

The only way to turn off the screen during an activity I found is swiping right to come back to home screen (watch face) and it turns off after few seconds.

What a pain... other than that, device runs rather well for my needs and battery last 4-5 days, but one activity of 1 hr approx. with screen always on 'sucks' 15-20%...

  • Bringing this up, anyone else with the same issue?

I've found that if I have Auto Scroll set to off, the screen will go off during an activity. This is my preferred option. To save battery etc, I only need to check information occasionally.

As soon as I switch Auto Scroll to on, the display scrolls, but it stays on. I wish it would go off during an activity, but scroll quickly when the wrist is raised.

Only just got the watch so only tested in running / bike / walk modes.  The only time I can get the screen to go off is when Auto Pause is on (so I stop, the screen pauses, stops scrolling, then the display disappears).

Is it supposed to be like this?  How's everyone else's.  Is mine faulty.

  • I also have this problem. My settings are same as yours. Is there any fix? I don't see any reason why is display always on, when autoscrolling is on. I just want to raise my wrist, take a look at two screens while they scroll, and then it should turn off.

  • Hey, is there an update? I still have this problem and there is no update for my Venu. The battery is draining really fast while on a long ride...
